Composum
Composum is a modelling, documentation and presentation tool. It combines text editing with UML, Java and graphic objects to a consistent concept. Documents, parts of documents, UML models and single components can be exported in any formats.

Current Version
In the current version 1.3 of Composum we have added the import of Rational Rose UML models and the export of UML elements in the XMI format. The online module of Composum is now an official part of the distribution.

Modelling
Composum is a Java application for modelling and documentation. It is an effective tool for construction of complete concepts based on the Unified Modelling Language (UML). Composum points up the document as the result of the modelling process.
Composum does not support the code generation, which code centered UML editors do. Instead, Composum combines a text processor with UML elements to a consistent concept.
Experiences
By our long experience in some software development projects we see the documents in the center of software modelling. The UML standard is useful for illustration, presentation and discussion of ideas and concepts. In our opinion UML models based on source code are too detailed to describe an idea. The modelling should not base on the source code, but the source code should base on a comprehensible model.

Results
The text processor integrated in Composum contains all text elements and functions which are needed for modelling and documentation in the software development process. You can build some documents consisting of text elements, subdocuments, UML diagrams and UML pictures (parts of diagrams).
With Composum you can develop a closed and consistent concept for a complete project. You can design and organize all documents or presentations you need in a project by combinating classes, diagrams and all other elements.
Advantages
If you use Composum, you need none additional tool to create your concepts. The expensive and imperfect combination of graphical UML editors with some office word processing is no longer required.
You design your documents according to your wishes like writing a book without a complex document generation known from some UML modelling tools. You need only one software license for text processing and UML modelling, but you have a full featured modelling tool.
